Central Masjid Rochdale began this educational endeavour in early 2024 with the launch of our first Nuqtah project - our Muslim Primary School. Whilst having many systems, classes and courses, we decided to gather it under one formal umbrella, allowing us to offer much more with uniformity.

The initiation of Nuqtah Education gave us a thrilling sense of desire to provide various out-of-the-box opportunities catering for all types of people in our community. To spill some of the beans, we’re already working tirelessly to deliver onsite and online short courses specifically curated for working adults and the elderly. Keep an eye out for this launch!

Nuqtah? You may ask. After deliberating on various names like Al-Faseel (The Sapling) and others, a simple dot came to mind; Nuqtah. Nuqtah literally means dot. Everything starts with a dot. But it doesn’t just end there, this name has its roots in profound Islamic wisdom as you will learn below.

Significance of a diacritic:

Uniqueness: through the diacritic, a distinction is achieved which contributes towards uniqueness and identity. (think of ج and ح or maybe a and ä umlaut)
Clarity: The diacritic helps in achieving clarity, hence precision and accuracy. (Above example)

The role of the Minor in the Major:

Whilst small, a diacritic plays a crucial role in a language. Similarly, this learning (read secular or علوم آلية) plays a crucial role in the understanding of higher learning (read Religious learning or علوم عالية) [ref: ad-Durrah al-Fardah Vol. 1]

Essence: The Dot signifies the most essential and minimal form of presence (of any form of creation, of course) "It all starts from a dot" is as accurate as it can be.

Potential to grow: The dot being the most essential and minimal form also signifies the almost infinite potential of growth.

In geometry and mathematics, a dot often represents a point, which can be seen as a point of origin or a starting point for exploration and understanding.
